What are news feeds?

News feeds, also known as RSS, let you see when a website has added new content and are a great way of condensing a mountain of information from a massive range of different sources into more palatable bite-sized chunks. There are numerous definitions of the term RSS, such as Rich Site Summary and RDF Site Summary, the most popular variant is the much snappier Really Simple Syndication. A feed generally consists of a title, link and a description delivered in an XML (Extensible Markup Language) based file format, which actually looks a lot like a stripped-down web page document.

How can you download or read a feed?

In order to view the information, you’ll need to download a software program or register with an aggregator website. It’ll grab news or whatever information you’re after from as many sources as you want and organise them however you wish.
