Warner Bros to relaunch online April 29, 2008 JJ O'Donoghue
Warner Bros has announced that it is to relaunch on the internet, having shut down its TV network over 18 months ago.
It was a long time leader in the young audience market with global hits such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek.
The new website, theWB.com, is scheduled to go live this August and will concentrate on youth programs.
Warner Bros believes that targeting younger audiences with advertiser-friendly online communities is the most promising strategy.
"I see ourselves as being in the storytelling business, and this is just a different platform to tell stories," said Bruce Rosenblum, president of the Warner Bros Television Group.
"We are developing targeted niche destinations that will fulfill advertisers' appetites," he continued.
The website will feature episodes from hits such as Friends, The O.C. and Gilmore Girls. The site will also feature original content targeted at the under-35 market.
A Facebook application will also let surfers grab images and use them legally on social-networking sites.
The site is currently in beta testing ahead of the summer launch.
