YouTube call to young scientists June 12, 2008 Web User
The University of Cambridge is challenging budding scientists to create a two-minute video for YouTube to prove that computer science isn't boring.
The winners of the competition could win an Asus Eee PC and a trip to Google's new engineering plant in Zurich, visited by Web User earlier this year.
Organisers of the competition have set the challenge to try and ignite interest in computer science, which is seen by some as the preserve of 'nerds' and 'geeks'.
"Too many people dismiss computer science, failing to realise that it underpins almost everything in modern society - from cars, logistics and communications to banking, retail shopping and education," said Dr Robert Harle of the Cambridge Computer Laboratory.
"We hope that the competition will serve as an incentive for students and members of the public to find out more about computer science, communicate it to their peers and boost the popularity of the subject," Dr Harle continued.
