While toothbrushes and sunscreen might be the most obvious things to pack for summer holidays, a new survey shows that gadgets are the essential items for the British traveller.
The top five gadgets, as voted by travellers in a survey by social-networking site WAYN.com, are the mobile phone, MP3 player, laptop, camera and SatNav.
Only two per cent of respondents thought it necessary to pack a toothbrush while just under 10 per cent included sunscreen in their list of essential items.
Overall, 35 per cent of travellers chose a gadget as a top travel item.
WAYN's poll of 7,400 members across 193 countries, found that the Scots think make-up is more essential than a book, and that the French chose a lover as the second most important thing to take on a holiday.
"You only have to spend an hour waiting for a delayed flight or train to watch travellers from all countries grab for the gadgets," said WAYN.com co-founder Peter Ward.
