CERN, otherwise known as the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, is host to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is the world's largest particle accelerator.
To mark the historic events, several websites are offering up-to-the minute coverage to bring you all the latest LHC news.
BBC Radio 4 is hosting a Big Bang Day on its website, which includes a CERN live feed similar to those offered by the BBC for major sporting event.
LHC results will be posted on the live text feed, and initial indications are that it has been a success, with beams of protons having circulated the 17-mile particle collider three times.
On the CERN website itself you'll find a LHC webcast, though due to its popularity, many people have been unable to access it.
"Due to a huge interest for this live video feed of the LHC First Beam day, you may not be able to see the live video stream and we apologise for this," said a statement on the http://webcast.cern.ch site.
