Online shopping 'offers big savings'

Shopping Shoppers who buy goods from the high street are incurring "huge losses" by not shopping online, according to an eBay survey.

The internet auction giant found that items such as the Sony PlayStation Portable and PS3 memory card were selling for up to 72 per cent less on eBay than on the high street.

The survey of popular consumer goods found that a Karen Millen 'Stripe Ribbon' dress, selling for £161.85 in stores, could be bought for £90 online - a saving of £71.65.

The survey, conducted at the start of the summer, highlighted significant savings for online shoppers in electronics, cameras and footwear.

A spokeswoman for eBay said that the survey shows that even stores that are typically perceived as great value for money do not stand up to the savings.
