BBC upgrades its internal search October 8, 2008 Web User
The BBC has updated its internal search to make it easier to find programmes that you can listen to or watch in iPlayer.
Rather than just containing links to news articles, BBC micro-sites and external sites, the search facility now shows you recent programmes as well, and includes direct links to iPlayer.
Around a third of the most popular searches on the BBC search engine are for programmes, according to the BBC's Matthew McDonnell.
The changes to search are just part of the BBC's overhaul of its website that began with the new-look homepage.
"The search pages have also taken on the new BBC style and we are experimenting with new ways of displaying the results," said McDonnell.
The BBC said that there would be more to come. "This is the first in a series of planned improvements to search in the next few months," McDonnell said.
