Ask Jeeves UK has unveiled new search tools designed to make it easier and more intuitive to find information online.
According to Ask Jeeves, its Smart Search tools can help the engine more directly answer queries by recognising how people think and find information.
For popular queries such as weather forecasts, latest news headlines, conversion calculations and the time in different locations, Ask Jeeves now delivers direct results at the top of the page.
A specific search for “weather in Rome in May” will return weather trends for the Italian city in May, while a query for "news on Beckham” will return the latest news headlines on the Real Madrid star.
Adrian Cox, chief executive at Ask Jeeves UK, said: “Ask Jeeves understands that people search in different ways. Smart Search guides the user directly to relevant News and Weather information, at the right time, making Ask.co.uk the search engine of choice for UK users.”
Ask Jeeves UK plans to add more Smart Search services, which use a combination of Ask Jeeves' natural language processing and Teoma search technologies, in addition to News and Weather throughout 2004. The US site Ask.com launched Smart Search tools in 2003.
