Google has unveiled two new search features for website owners, including a tool that lets you offer your visitors search results tailored based on your site.
According to Google, because "no two websites are alike" its aim is to make search results as relevant as possible.
Using the new free Site-Flavored Google Search tool you can place a box within the pages of your website that delivers search results based on a profile of your site.
Select from a number of categories to specify the interests that describe your website, for example, if you own a computer site you can pick [computers > hardware].
Visitors searching for the word “mouse” will then see results more relevant to the computer accessory than the animal.
In a release, Google said: "With this technology, webmasters and site publishers can enhance the overall experience of their website(s) by connecting users with search results that are relevant to the website they are visiting."
To use Site-Flavored Google Search your browser must be Internet Explorer 5, Netscape 5, or Mozilla 1.4 above and have Javascript enabled.
A second new tool, called Google AdSense for Search, lets you place a Google search box on your website and provide visitors with Google search results and keyword-targeted advertisements.
