Placing the emphasis firmly on fun and user-friendliness, IncrediMail is the liveliest email software currently available. It enables you to spice up your messages with all manner of fancy backgrounds, dynamic pictures and amusing sounds, as well as creating handwritten signatures and adding personal voice notes. Rather than a simple noise or message, the program notifies you when new mail arrives by way of an animated butler, dog or duck. You can also play 3D effects when sending, receiving and deleting messages, and customise the interface with different skins.

Behind its pretty face, IncrediMail offers several worthwhile tools, including the ability to approve or block specific senders and domains. Messages and Address Book contacts can be easily imported from other email programs, and Identities can be set up to keep user accounts separate.

Verdict
Now the bad news: IncrediMail has a nasty habit of imposing itself on your PC, eating up system resources and leaving difficult-to-remove traces. An unsightly ad banner sits on the main toolbar unless you pay £16 for the Premium version, while the heavy HTML makes messages slow to send and receive. That said, if you're willing to suffer these annoyances for more entertaining email, there's plenty here to enjoy.
