This review updated: 09/05/2005 Featured in magazine: Issue 107 Manufacturer Contacts: Supplier: Logitech Web Address: www.logitech.co.uk At £20 more than its rivals, this camera is an expensive option, but it comes with everything you'll need to start video chatting on an instant messenger. Perhaps most significant is the headset, which features over-the-ear stereo speakers and a microphone, and plugs into the mic and speaker ports of your computer. If you just want a quick chat without scrabbling for your ports the camera also has a microphone built-in. The device is USB 2.0 compatible, supporting smooth video up to 640 x 480 pixels should you need it, though this is way beyond the needs of video conferencing. It has a sturdy but flexible base that can be used to stand on its own or hang off the top of a flat-screen monitor. There's software included to take video clips or still images with your camera and send them via email. It also provides links to MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger.
Verdict
More Web Cams reviews:
Picture quality is good enough for a video chat, even in poor lighting conditions, though Desktop movie makers may find it lacking for their purposes. However, with its everything-in-the-box approach, it's a great option for anyone looking to start using video to talk over the net. |
