The star of Ricoh's pocket offering is the range of its lens – the 7x optical zoom is head and shoulders above the competition in terms of zooming power. It's also got a wider aspect at the other end of the scale, with a wider angle that can simply fit more in the picture. The only negative impact is on the camera size, though it's still compact enough to fit in the tightest of pockets.

The Caplio R6's zoom smashed the competition in terms of capturing distant detail and generally providing a greater range of options for the creative photographer, though the camera also scored well in its general ability to capture and reproduce colour and for its macro ability.

The package comes with a battery charger and the usual TV and PC cables. As usual with Ricoh models, we were impressed to see a standard Mini USB connection so, if you've already got other devices that use the standard, you can keep one cable connected to your computer and use it for more than one device.
