Storage round up
Product reviews > Hardware > Storage

In the days when computers were mainly employed for word processing, a floppy disk was all you needed to store and carry around your files. But now that we use Desktops for everything from music, video and gaming to photography and web design, the 1.44Mb of storage space offered by a floppy is nowhere near enough.

There are plenty of alternatives available though, from CD writers to USB storage devices, including massive external hard drives.

Portable memory drives that plug into a USB port on your computer are among the most useful computer gadgets around, especially if you regularly transfer files from one computer to another. Along with plain external hard disks for the data hungry; network storage for those with more than one PC; and media storage for those also wanting to view their work on a TV.

This section deals with anything you might save a file onto.
