Windows XP (and now Vista too) includes support for making ZIP files through its Compressed Folders feature. Rather than running a program, the tool is accessed by sending files to a compressed folder through the Send To context menu, available when you right-click on a file. While quick and easy to use, the tool exhibits a distinct lack of features, with no way to adjust compression levels or create self-extracting ZIPs. Password protection can be added, but this takes an extra step and is not integrated into the ZIP creation process.
