Yahoo's mail service has a familiar Outlook-style interface and messages can be sorted by all manner of criteria. These include unread, sender, date, size and so on, while searching through your Inbox simply requires you to enter a few keywords. Emails can be flagged for follow-up and you can create filters and folders to help keep everything organised.

Messages can be saved as drafts and spell-checked (there's a drop-down list that you can select different languages from). It's also possible to convert emails to chats, if you decide that's how you'd prefer to respond. When you search for a message or compose an email, the action is opened in a separate tab, so it's easy to flick between multiple tasks.

Junk Mail is handled well, with Yahoo's SpamGuard automatically dealing with most unwanted messages. Anything that gets through is easily banished by selecting it and clicking the Spam button.

As well as email, there's a calendar and a notepad on offer together with a built-in news reader so you can view the latest headlines from your favourite sites. A slight drawback is that the reader replaces your Inbox rather than being opened in a new tab, which is somewhat annoying.

Another irritation is the large advert which runs down the right-hand side. You can hide this temporarily by expanding the mail window, but you'll need to upgrade to Yahoo Mail Plus (£12 per year) to remove it permanently.

On top of all the excellent features Yahoo Mail has to offer, it also comes with unlimited storage space for your emails.
