While del.icio.us didn't invent the concept of storing bookmarks online, it was one of the pioneers of social bookmarking – a system which lets you share your links with other people and discover new sites you might be interested in. Del.icio.us is extremely simple to use – you can either install the custom toolbar, or just make use of the bookmarklet that can be saved in your web browser's Favorites list. When you find a site you want to save, click the bookmarklet and it will automatically add it to your del.icio.us bookmarks.

When you save sites you're also prompted to add tags to them, to help you or others find related items. So, for example, you could tag Web User's site with 'news', 'reviews', 'computer' and 'internet', and then anyone browsing through those tags would find it. If you have some sites you want to keep to yourself, you can also mark them private so they're not shared with the world.

The del.icio.us team has also been busy creating add-on applications to help you manage and share your Bookmarks. There's a comprehensive Firefox add-on available and also a Facebook application, so you can share your latest bookmarks easily with your friends.

Del.icio.us may have been around for a while, but it hasn't stopped adding new features while also maintaining its ease of use, earning it a well deserved Gold Award.
